Jami Kaysen

Jami Kaysen, a male who identifies as a trans woman, was convicted in 2014 of multiple counts of criminal damage after scrawling ‘mindless’ graffiti across heritage sites in Chester – including the cathedral and the historic Rows – causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.

Kaysen, 33, asked for 33 similar offences to be taken into consideration and was given an anti-social behaviour order (ASBO) banning the carrying of any items used in the production of graffiti anywhere in England and Wales for the next five years.

Kaysen’s defence solicitor said his client ‘has a number of previous issues going on in her life’ was ‘undergoing a  sex change’, had mental health issues and was agoraphobic.

Kaysen was also ordered to pay £1,156 compensation for the damage caused, given an 18 month community order and made subject to an alcohol  requirement and supervision order and must wear an electronic tag and be confined to a relative’s home between 7pm-7am for three months.

Local newspapers reported the crime as having been committed by a woman.
