Angel Gomes

Angel Gomes, a male who identifies as a trans woman, and civil partner Leon Foster were convicted of controlling prostitution for gain, and money laundering in September 2016.

Both were given 12 month jail sentences, suspended for 12 months, ordered to pay £500 costs each and a victim surcharge, and repay money earned by the enterprise, as well as doing 100 hours of unpaid work.

Gomes, 50, and Foster, 42, ran the organised prostitution ring which traded online under the name “Kelly Shemales” and operated for four years across the south of England until their arrest in July 2014. Gomes’ friends from the trans community in South America who already sold sex, were brought (potentially trafficked?) to the UK to work for the enterprise.

The judge indicated to Gomes that being transgender was a factor in suspending the prison sentence. Judge Patrick Eccles QC said: “I bear in mind that for anyone in the transsexual community, imprisonment may be very harsh.”
