Matthew / Natalie Kearney

Matthew/Natalie Kearney, a violent male who identifies as a trans woman, was jailed for 12 months in September 2016 after being found guilty of common assault and breaching a restraining order in March 2016.

Kearney of Wallasey, Merseyside had twice previously assaulted partner Michael Hollywood and consequently was fined and made subject to a restraining order in September 2015. Liverpool Crown Court heard that Kearney “kicked him, causing him to fall over a glass table, and continued to assault him on the floor, biting his arm.”

The court heard that Kearney had persistently and deliberately breached court orders, referring to them as “just a piece of paper” and turned up hours late to a pre-sentence report meeting and “demonstrated no remorse”. The judge stated that while he wished he could have suspended Kearney’s sentence, “against this background it’s simply impossible”.

Kearney was sent to HMP Styal (a closed category women’s prison) after the judge voiced bullying concerns in a male facility.
