Paul Hayhurst

Paul Hayhurst, a violent male transvestite, pleaded guilty to murdering 57-year-old Alexander Toner by stabbing him in the heart in August 2010. He was jailed for life at Liverpool Crown Court for murdering Mr Toner in his home in St Helens in November 2010.

Although Hayhurst, 38, had a long-term girlfriend, he appears to have led a double life using online dating sites to meet men for sex. He had met Mr Toner via a gay TV channel in November, 2009 and considered him a friend and close companion. Hayhurst never gave any explanation as to why he carried out the killing.

Judge Henry Globe, QC, told Hayhurst he would serve a minimum of 12 years before being considered for parole.
