Robert O’Farrell/Katie Birtles (“Katie B”), a male who identifies as a transgender woman, was confronted by a paedophile hunter group (Secretly Tackling Online Predators or S.T.O.P. UK) in connection with an allegation of sexual communications with a child in January 2025.

A video of “Katie B” from Grantham being interviewed by a member of S.T.O.P UK is available here and also featured here on the Exposed Cheats and Abusers Facebook page. In the video “Katie B” admits to being a convicted sex offender who is on the sex offenders’ register and currently has a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) in place. The feminist news service Reduxx stated on X/Twitter that “Katie B” has been arrested.

O’Farrell/Birtles, now aged 40 and living in Grantham, was convicted at Lincolnshire Crown Court in May 2025 of one count of engaging in sexual communication with a child, one count of arranging/facilitating commission of offence of sexual activity and two counts of breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) that was previously imposed for 10 years.

O’Farrell/Birtles was sentenced to four years and eight months in prison and will have an extended period of two years on license following release. An indefinite SHPO with a restriction on software monitoring was also imposed and O’Farrell/Birtles will remain on the sex offender’s register for life.

Chat logs obtained from O’Farrell/Birtles’ phone revealed evidence of sending sexually explicit messages and grooming girls under 16 years old over a two-week period in January 2025.

Despite knowing full well that O’Farrell/Birtles is male, Lincolnshire Police’s press release (archive) uses female pronouns throughout and refers to him as a “woman” – this doubtless led to local media outlets and ITV News referring to the offender similarly. Lincolnshire Police was placed into an enhanced level of monitoring, i.e. “special measures”, by HMICFRS in December 2024 in response to “significant service failures” with regard to attendance times for calls and how the force manages registered sex offenders.

O’Farrell/Birtles was apparently charged on 18 January 2025 and remanded into custody. It seems likely therefore that he is the correspondent named only as “Katie B” from male prison HMP Lincoln who wrote to the prison newspaper Inside Time in the wake of April’s UK Supreme Court decision on the definition of woman in the Equality Act. In the letter, “Katie B” unironically rails against the judgment, particularly that male sex offenders such as himself should be incarcerated in male prisons and potentially have to share cells with other male prisoners. It presumably never occurs to him that the judgment should also protect female prisoners from ever having to share a cell with male sex offenders like him.

Under the name Robert O’Farrell, then aged 32 and of Deeping St James, he was previously jailed for three counts of making indecent images of children in September 2017. He received a nine month sentence after his hard drive was found to contain 21 images in the most serious Category A (which e.g. depict children being raped), 13 Category B images and 179 Category C images. The images included video images and O’Farrell had set up two social media accounts purporting to be children. Contemporary local media coverage reveals that O’Farrell apparently has “language difficulties” and had to move out of his parents home to “protect his mother’s job” and had also had his employment terminated.
