Stephen Owen

Stephen Owen, a violent male transvestite, was found guilty in January 2010 of four counts of indecent assault, three charges of indecency with a child, and two counts of attempted rape committed against two girls in Bolton in the 1980s and 1990s.

The abuse took place when the girls were aged nine to 15 and six to 11. The court heard Owen, 62, wore a wedding dress and his wife’s dresses and shoes before sexually assaulting one of the girls.

The victims came forward after one of them saw an article in The Bolton News in 2008 when Owen, was jailed for nine years after being found guilty of 13 sexual offences against a third young girl. The abuse continued for five years beginning when she was aged eight, but she did not report it to police until she was 20.

As a reflection of the danger he poses to women and girls, Owen was sentenced to a further nine years for the latest offences and given an additional six years to run consecutively to his existing sentence, totalling 15 years.
