Jonathan Meadows
Jonathan Adrian Meadows (aka Julie Shepherd), a male who identifies as a transgender woman, was convicted at Swansea Crown Court in 2023 of three counts of making indecent images of children, possession of prohibited images of children, possession of extreme pornography, and breaching a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO).
In 2020, Meadows was convicted of seven similar sex offences; three counts of making indecent images of children, three counts of distributing indecent images, and possession of extreme pornography. Meadows had multiple online aliases and started nearly all conversations with the question: “Are you curious about child porn?” – his devices contained 1,000 images and videos of an extreme nature involving the abuse of children and the abuse of animals with more than 100 of them falling under Category A – the most serious. He was caught after messaging a 15-year-old girl who did not respond and instead reported what had happened to her adult sister. The older sibling responded and Meadows immediately asked if she liked “illegal sexual stuff” and claimed he had abused children.
Despite this alarming sex offending, Meadows was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment in 2020 which was suspended for two years. He was also made the subject of a 10-year SHPO and ordered to participate in a rehabilitation programme.
As part of the conditions of the SHPO imposed in 2020, Meadows’ devices were subject to police checks and in April 2023, his phone and an SD memory card officers were found to contain a total of 95 child sexual abuse images – including 17 Category A pictures and videos showing the most extreme forms of abuse including rape – along with 56 prohibited images, and five images of extreme pornography.
Meadows, 30, is banned from having social media accounts in any name other than his own unless he registers them with police, but told the court there was “no sinister motive” for having a Discord account in the name of ‘Julie Shepherd’ as he ‘intends to transition’ and that is the name he wants to adopt. This declaration of a trans identity after criminal charges have been brought has been pithily named ‘Prison Onset Gender Dysphoria‘ – as exemplified by the trans-identified male double rapist Adam Graham/Isla Bryson who told jurors ‘she [sic] first made the decision about “transition” from a man to a woman in 2020 after she [sic] first appeared to face the rape charge’.
The court heard that the youngest children in the images were estimated by police to be aged between six months and 12 months. At sentencing in June 2023, the judge told Meadows that the pictures he had downloaded were of real children somewhere in the world being horribly sexually abused so people like him could masturbate over them.
Meadows was sentenced to 21 months in prison comprising 12 months for breaching the SHPO and nine months for the image offences charges to run consecutively. He will serve up to half that period in custody before being released on licence to serve the remainder in the community. He will be a registered sex offender for the next 10 years, and the existing SHPO was allowed to continue.
