Steven Ballantyne

Steven Ballantyne, a male transvestite, was convicted at Newcastle Crown Court in August 2022 of outraging public decency. Ballantyne, 41, was sentenced to five months in jail, suspended for two years with 200 hours unpaid work.

In January 2021, Ballantyne was seen in an Alnwick petrol station ladies toilet by an unfortunate woman and her five year old daughter at about 6.30pm where he was naked (except for a bra) and masturbating. Another woman also entered the toilet and witnessed Ballantyne’s offending and she told the court “I was frightened and can’t believe this male has been doing this in a public toilet. I’m disgusted and his behaviour is clearly wrong.”

Ballantyne’s employment by Northumberland County Council, working in several schools on a supply basis, was terminated following a disciplinary hearing. He must also sign the sex offenders register and be subject to a sexual harm prevention order for five years and was given a restraining order banning him from going to the BP garage in question or any female public toilet.

In January 2024 Ballantyne was banned from teaching indefinitely and the panel concluded there was limited evidence of regret or remorse from him. Ballantyne’s teacher misconduct panel outcome can be viewed here
