Cyrus Scarborough

Cyrus Levi Khan Scarborough, a violent male who identifies as a transgender woman, was convicted at Sheffield Crown Court in 2023 of two counts of Section 18 assault (grievous bodily harm/GBH with intent, the most serious form of non-lethal violent crime in England and Wales). Scarborough was sentenced in June 2023 to 13 years in custody, and five years on extended licence.

Scarborough, aged 28 and from Leeds, perpetrated an “unprovoked attack” on a man in his fifties in a bar in Sheffield in April 2022, pushing him to the floor before sitting on him and pushing his fingers into the victim’s eyes. The man was left partially blind by the assault. Unbelievably after such a brutal attack, Scarborough was bailed and then, just two days later, seriously assaulted a friend, stabbing him in the chest, neck and head.

In August 2025, Scarborough wrote to Inside Time, the prison newspaper, mithering about misgendering and not being able to get make-up in a men’s prison. He also airily dismisses sexual assaults that male trans prisoners have perpetrated in women’s prisons (before the law was changed), saying the media “would have the public believe trans women are a danger in women’s prisons, based on one or two cases of people identifying as transgender assaulting women in these places”. With no trace of irony he then goes on to complain that male prisoners sexually harass him and expose their penises to him – which is exactly what trans rapist Stephen Wood (aka Karen White) subjected multiple women to in HMP New Hall. If Scarborough can hand wave away these attacks, why does he imagine his complaints also can’t be handwaved away? The letter also reveals Scarborough has been convicted and jailed repeatedly since age 18 and that he was previously allocated to a women’s prison before being transferred out due to not having medically transitioned.

See here for examples of other violent trans-identified male prisoners who have written to Inside Time to moan about being incarcerated in male prisons and spouting similar pleadings that exceptions should be made for them/no risk to women/transphobia yadda yadda… Other violent trans offenders convicted of GBH are collated here.

Throughout their coverage, the BBC refers to Scarborough as a ‘woman’, not even clarifying by describing this violent man as ‘trans woman’ further into the article. The report starts with the sentence “A woman who left a man partially blind in a pub attack…” and carries the headline “Sheffield pub attack: Woman who gouged man’s eye jailed”. Scarborough’s conviction also appears in court paperwork as having been perpetrated by a “female” and the police officer commenting in media articles used female pronouns to describe him.
