Sean/Safiya Anna Haverty

Sean/Safiya Anna Haverty, a violent male who identifies as a transgender woman, was convicted at Winchester Crown Court in August 2026 of kidnapping, intentional strangulation, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and perverting the course of justice. Haverty had pleaded guilty to dangerous driving in April, but denied the other offences.

Haverty, aged 28 and from Newquay, Cornwall, had intentionally driven his van into the victim – a woman in her fifties – on a road near Andover, Hampshire, in an attempt to kidnap her. Local news reports from March 2026 indicate she was was pulled towards the back of the vehicle but managed to fend off the man and run away. She was taken to hospital to receive treatment for injuries to her knee, wrist and nose.

The Andover Advertiser reported that ‘Sean Haverty, 28, of Vyvan Drive in Newquay has been charged with kidnap with intent to commit a relevant sexual offence, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and non-fatal strangulation’. These charges appear to have been changed to remove the element of intention to commit a sexual offence by the time of trial.

As the headline read ‘Man arrested after attempting to kidnap woman in Andover’, his transgender identity must have been declared post arrest – a phenomenon known as ‘Prison Onset Gender Dysphoria‘. Public records and archived online profiles that were located by the feminist news service Reduxx, indicate that Haverty had previously presented exclusively as a man. The judge advised the jury of Haverty’s name change and that the defendant is biologically male and presenting as a woman in court. After being severely criticised for issuing a misleading tweet in March 2026 using female pronouns for the violent male murderer, Steven Carby/Aurin Makepeace, the CPS at least managed to mention that Haverty is biologically male in their press release.

Because Haverty admitted driving the vehicle involved in the incident but denied the other offences, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary and CPS prosecutors had to build the case using forensic and ANPR evidence, mobile phone data and eyewitnesses to prove Haverty was responsible.

The BBC covered the story in brief, and described Haverty as ‘Kidnapper’ in the headline and ‘Safiya Anna Haverty, formerly known as Sean Haverty’ in the body of the article (i.e. specifically did not mention his transgender status) and avoided using a pronouns for him. They also chose not to include an image of Haverty, though one was issued by Hants Police.
