Qasim/Layla Anwar, a violent male transvestite, was convicted of rape at Manchester Crown Court in 2013. Anwar, aged 30 and from the Whalley Range of the city, was sentenced to five years in prison and will be placed on licence after his release and will sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.
Anwar, a taxi driver, raped the woman while dressed in make-up, a wig, women’s clothing and high heels. He also filmed the attack. The court heard that Anwar deliberately targeted the victim after she fell from a bar stool due to being intoxicated; he told staff in the club that she was his girlfriend and he would take care of her before putting her in his taxi. The prosecution also alleged that ‘Anwar couldn’t distinguish between fantasy and fact’. Like many a rapist, Anwar claimed the woman was an eager participant who had led him on.
After the case, the victim said of the judge’s comments: ‘To refer to what that man did to me as “fairly usual” is just shocking.’
