David / Davina Ayrton
David / Davina Ayrton, a violent male who identifies as a trans woman, was jailed for 8 years in March 2016 for the rape of a 15 year old girl between October and November 2004. Ayrton was also placed on the sex offenders register for life.
Ayrton, 34, denied the charge but was found guilty at Portsmouth Crown Court. Judge Ian Pearson described the rape as “traumatic” and said the “scars and effects will never leave” the victim.
Ayrton’s victim has spoken publicly about the traumatic effect of the rape on her, saying ‘I kept getting flashbacks of the attack and nightmares. It tormented me so much I tried to kill myself.’
The court heard that Ayrton had not “made any physical changes or enhancements” to their body or taken any medication. Ayrton was sent to HM Prison Winchester, a Category B men’s prison.
In 2007, Ayrton was convicted of arson. In January 2014 Ayrton, who has a son, was also convicted of possessing over 4,500 indecent images of children as young as three at Bournemouth Crown Court. Ayrton was given a three year community order and ordered to sign the sex offenders register for five years, and to pay a £60 victim surcharge.
Despite media reports widely using female pronouns for Ayrton, sentencing information from the Crown Court reveal that Ayrton was convicted as a male defendant, therefore it is unlikely this (overwhelmingly male) crime of rape will be recorded in female crime statistics.
