Francis/Francesca Bartkus, a violent male who identifies as a transgender woman, was convicted at Paisley Sheriff Court in December 2024 of two violent offences – the first of spraying a child with urine and the second of assaulting a man with a bicycle chain with a padlock attached to it. Bartkus, 62, reportedly doused the 14 year old boy’s head, body and clothing with urine from a spray bottle.

In yet another case of so-called Prison Onset Gender Dysphoria, Bartkus began identifying as transgender very recently; the name given when arrested three months previously was the male name of Francis. Court staff apparently had to score it out on paperwork and write in “Francesca” manually. Sentencing was deferred for reports until January 2025.

Previously, Bartkus was convicted at Glasgow Sheriff Court in October 2014 of conducting himself in a “disorderly manner” at Glasgow’s Silverburn Shopping Centre. On four separate occasions over a period of five days in February 2014, Bartkus entered a lingerie store and asked members of staff inappropriate questions relating to women’s underwear, causing them a state of “fear and alarm.” Bartkus targeted young female shop assistants, alarming them by talking about wearing fishnet stockings and asking one whether she wore children’s clothing while staring at her breasts. An attempt to appeal the conviction was rejected by the court as the relevant test of the evidence for Bartkus’ offending was met, i.e. it was of sufficient gravity to be genuinely alarming and disturbing to a reasonable person.
