Bex McCullgh

Bex McCullgh (aka Beckham), a violent male who identifies as a transgender woman, was convicted in February 2025 at Bristol Crown Court of multiple sex offences against children, namely attempting to meet a child under 16 following grooming; attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child and attempting to cause a child aged 13 to 15 to watch/look at an image of sexual activity.

McCullgh, aged 25 and of no fixed abode from Backwell, North Somerset, was jailed for eight years, four of which will be served in custody, followed by another four on extended licence. McCullgh was also made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order and added to the sex offenders register indefinitely.

McCullgh travelled to Bristol in October 2024 to meet up with a child intending to sexually abuse them, but was instead arrested in a sting operation by undercover officers from South West Regional Organised Crime Unit (SWROCU).

Local media referred to “a person from Backwell”. The Daily Mail’s headline read “Woman, 25, who was snared by police while trying to meet up with a young boy for sex is jailed” and the comments are full of readers complaining and urging an eye test for the journalists responsible. Somerset Live changed their headline from “Somerset woman went to meet ‘young boy’ for sex” to “Somerset sex offender went to meet ‘young boy’ for sex” – despite the fact that ‘young boys’ cannot consent to ‘sex’ with adults and the charges related to sexual abuse, not ‘sex’.

This obfuscation of the offender’s sex originates from the police – see the SWROCU press release here – and DI David Wells from SWROCU is quoted in coverage as saying “The sentence handed down to McCullgh reflects the threat she [sic] posed to children and, together with the indefinite order, will help prevent her [sic] reoffending when she [sic] is eventually released.” See this tag for more examples of police obscuring the sex of trans-identified males.

The Daily Telegraph was the only newspaper to point out that, despite court records referring to the paedophile using “he”, police have since referred to McCullgh as “she”.
