Zack/Kalani Jay
Zack/Kalani Jay, a violent male who identifies as a transgender woman, was convicted in April 2026 at Truro Crown Court of two counts of intentional suffocation and one count of making threats to kill.
On April 2, 2025, Jay had insisted on sleeping in his grandmother’s bed at her home in Penzance and in the morning asked for a cuddle. His grandmother said she wanted to sleep some more as she had not slept well – Jay then pushed a pillow over her face. When she tried to fight Jay off, he placed his hands over her mouth. Fortunately, she managed to escape and later reported the incident. In her victim impact statement read out in court, Jay’s gran said she had not been able to get over what he had tried to do and suffers from frequent flashbacks. As recorded in the headline of the local coverage, Jay said he tried to suffocate his unfortunate grandmother because he ‘liked the idea of playing God’.
Jay was then taken to a mental health unit at Bassingbourn cum Kneesworth in Cambridgeshire to be treated for emotionally unstable personality disorder and other mental illnesses. Unbelievably, given his previous violence towards a vulnerable woman, he was able to access a female patient in the unit and attempt to suffocate her with a pillow. He told police he did it because her crying had annoyed him, indicating, yet again, his extremely high level of threat towards women. The attack was captured on CCTV and staff were able to restrain Jay quickly.
When released from the psychiatric unit, Jay then began a relationship with a vulnerable, homeless man and was arrested after calling a mental health helpline and telling the operator of his violent, porn-addled murderous plan to tie up his partner, ‘have some knife play then stab him in the throat’. A cynical observer would notice it was only when a man’s life was endangered that Jay was arrested and charged. In yet another complete failure of safeguarding, Jay was then held on remand at HMP Eastwood Park, a female prison, in contravention of government policy that stipulates that violent/sexually violent men who identify as transgender cannot be held in the women’s prison estate.
See also this recent case of an unnamed bearded male who identifies as transgender who exposed himself to vulnerable female patients in a mental health facility within the Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust. After initially being removed from the female ward, he was then transferred back by the Trust management, totally disregarding his risk to the female patients.
See also Christopher/Claire Darbyshire who served a mere four years in prison after suffocating his disabled father to death. Likewise, violent trans-identified male, Mark/Karen Jones, was jailed for a mere five years after admitting suffocating and strangling his partner Michael Cutler with a pair of tights. Jones later suffocated a female shop assistant by forcing a lemon her mouth and attempted to rape her in a Transformations shop (a shop for transvestite to try on and buy stereotypically female clothing and accessories).
The judge described 21 year-old Jay as a dangerous offender who presented a high risk of re-offending and his behaviour was “troubling and unpredictable”. He sentenced Jay to seven years in prison including three years on an extended licence. He also imposed a restraining order not to contact the victims for 10 years. It is unknown whether Jay is serving his sentence at HMP Eastwood Park or has been sent to the male estate where he belongs and where government policy clearly states he should be held.
