English Defence League (EDL) Transvestite
A male transvestite member of the far-right English Defence League (EDL) was photographed draped in a St George’s flag at an anti-Muslim demonstration in Aldgate, east London in September 2013. Eight of the 500 EDL members marching were arrested and 3000 police officers were deployed to outnumber the EDL members and prevent violence.
The EDL had earlier lost a High Court legal battle to protest through parts of Tower Hamlets as police argued the march’s route was ‘unnecessarily provocative’ to the Muslim community living there.
Hope Not Hate define the EDL as a racist organisation whose main activity is street demonstrations against the Muslim community.
