Debra Christopher Wright, a violent male who identifies as a trans woman, has been convicted of numerous offences including assaults and racially motivated threatening behaviour and assaults. In all media coverage Wright was referred to as a woman.

Wright, 41, of no fixed abode, was convicted at Bristol Magistrates Court in 2020 of damaging a shop window in Bath and threatening behaviour on June 15; assault in Bath on June 8; threatening behaviour in Bath on June 17 and two assaults in Bath on July 16. Wright was sentenced to 34 weeks’ custody.

In July 2017 Wright was convicted at Bath Magistrates’ Court of using racially-aggravated, threatening behaviour after shouting racist and obscene slurs, directed against Muslims, in the city centre on 1 July. A nurse, who is Muslim heard it, and there were “a lot of people in the area at the time including a lot of children and families.” A second public disorder charge was withdrawn. Wright received a £135 fine and was told to pay a £35 victim surcharge.

In September 2017 Wright was jailed for 18 weeks after being convicted of two counts of racially aggravated assault, racially aggravated harassment and criminal damage. The racially aggravated assault was of a man outside The Little Theatre in Bath on July 8, 2017.

Earlier in the year, Wright was sentenced to six weeks in prison in May 2017 for the racially aggravated assault on another man at the Royal United Hospital in Lower Weston. Wright was then convicted of racially aggravated harassment after causing alarm or distress to a man by using threatening or abusive words on June 24 in Bath, fined £50 and ordered to pay £100 in compensation. A two-week prison sentence was also imposed after being convicted of damaging a shop window on July 11 in a religiously aggravated attack. As well as the prison sentence, Wright was given a criminal behaviour order for two years and ordered to pay a total of £200 in fines and compensation, and complete a drug and alcohol programme.

Other trans-identified males who have been convicted of racially-aggravated offences are collected under this tag.

*Update October 2021*

Debra Wright, 42, of no fixed address, was charged with assaulting an emergency worker during the Bristol ‘Kill The Bill’ riot in March 2021. Media coverage of trials for various other rioters indicated that Wright had been remanded into custody (likely due to breach of licence) and was due to appear at Bristol Crown Court for trial on Tuesday, 26 October, 2021. Despite many articles and photos of individual rioters appearing in the media during 2021 and 2022 during their trials, no coverage of the verdict or photos of Wright can be located.
