Robert Clothier

Robert Clothier / Lady James, a male drag queen, was convicted in 2013 of arranging or facilitating the commission of a child sex offence, making indecent images of children, distributing images of children and possessing prohibited images of children.

He was sentenced at Southwark Crown Court to 26 months in prison, fined £120 and placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years.

Clothier, 37, travelled to Wimbledon train station in March 2013 to meet who he thought would be two children, a boy aged 8 and a girl aged 11, and their father. Instead he was met by police as part of a sting operation and was arrested. Clothier had set up sexual liaison with ‘Mark’ and his children online and was found in possession of glow-in-the-dark condoms, female children’s underwear, Easter eggs and toys when arrested. At his sentencing the judge remarked that the presents had been to “make yourself more acceptable to the children”.

Clothier was part of the Brighton drag scene for many years and hosted the cabaret tent at Brighton Pride between 2009 and 2011. He was filmed at the 2011 Pride festival making jokes about being a sex offender, saying ‘I’m sweating like a paedophile in Mothercare it’s so hot in here’.

Likewise, the Green Party activist David Challenor convicted of the rape and torture of a ten year old girl in 2018, was involved with Coventry Pride as was Aimee Challenor who twice hired David Challenor as election agent.
