Hollie/Ryder Hanson
Hollie/Ryder Hanson, a violent female who identifies as a transgender man, was convicted at Leeds Crown Court in January 2025 of intentional strangulation, threats to kill, wounding with intent and engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour in an intimate relationship. Hanson, 26, was sentenced to four years imprisonment with an extended licence period of three years and was made the subject of an indefinite restraining order.
Hanson – a Wakefield-based trans activist Tik Tok influencer with thousands of followers – perpetrated a catalogue of controlling and violent offences between 2020 and 2024 against Lauren Hanson (Hanson’s wife). These included assaulting Lauren with a vodka bottle, knocking her unconscious before slashing her leg, making repeated threats to kill, isolating her from family and controlling her access to her bank account. Speaking about footage of Hanson strangling Lauren, the judge said ‘It might have lasted two minutes. ‘To her, one could imagine it would have been eternity because that’s what it is like to be strangled. ‘Your whole life passes before your eyes.’ Hanson was also convicted of common assault against a male victim.
Despite media reporting that the court heard Hanson uses the name Ryder and apparently applied for a gender recognition certificate since being on remand at HMP New Hall women’s prison, all media reports were happy to name the defendant as female and use female pronouns throughout their coverage. This is in direct contrast in how they report male trans individuals who have been convicted of murder, violence and sexual offences, such as Fangze Wang/Scarlet Blake, Angel Hill, Dominic Risden/Lexi-Rose Crawford and Nathan/Naomi O’Brien who are all described as ‘women’ and often including ridiculous, insulting phrases as having perpetrated offences such as rape with ‘her penis‘. Double standards indeed.
