Impotent Transgender Vandals

A group of rage-filled men who identify as transgender and call themselves BASH BACK (presumably because “Look What You Made Me Do” was taken, as one X/Twitter wag put it) has started a criminal campaign of violence and intimidation against people who disagree with them – unsurprisingly, women and a gay male politician have been their first targets.

Having lost the argument both in the court of public opinion and in the Supreme Court, this group of self-admitted angry, impotent men smashed the windows and sprayed paint all over the front of the Brighton conference venue hosting the 2,000+ delegate FiLIA women’s liberation conference in October 2025. Yep, at a conference where women from all over the world met to discuss issues such as men’s violence against women, a bunch of angry men used violence to try and terrorise women into shutting up. Organisers of the conference told The Times that they submitted an urgent application to Brighton and Hove city council for a public spaces protection order (PSPO) over fears of an attack, which was refused.

One droll critic succinctly questioned such ineffective tactics, replying on Bluesky to say “making the trans community seem violent and aggressive isn’t helping anyone. ‘Oh they smashed up our property, I guess we’ll capitulate to their demands’ is not something people generally think.”

The group of BASH BACK man-babies appear to have got their caps lock key stuck when drafting their threatening screeds, promising that the FiLIA attack is JUST THE START and welcoming women to a “NEW ERA OF TRANS RAGE“. Unsurprisingly, their justification for violence targeting women is non-existent, just vague BLOOD ON THEIR HANDS TRANSPHOBIA accusations against women who have the temerity to want Supreme Court-mandated provision of single sex services and sport under the Equality Act 2010. No arrests of BASH BACK members have yet been made. The group is also urging other angry, violent men to JOIN US. START A CELL

On August 1, 2025, BASH BACK attacked the Health Secretary Wes Streeting’s constituency office, similarly spray painting and smashing its windows. Streeting appears to be a particular scapegoat as the group’s action guide for other angry, impotent men uses the attack as an example of a “good target”. The media largely ignored it, with the BBC responding to complaints on their failure to cover the story saying that they “do not believe the issue you have raised requires the BBC to take any further action”. The BASH BACK post on X/Twitter claiming responsibility for the attack had been re-posted by just five profiles at the time of writing. Again the group’s justification is non-existent and presumably relates to Streeting doing his job and acting decisively to prevent gender-confused children being prescribed puberty blockers after the Cass Review found that the medical evidence to support their use was “remarkably weak.” In fact, the distinguished paediatrician author of the review, Dr Hilary Cass (now Baroness Cass), herself was deluged with abuse by trans activists and was advised by the police to stop using public transport. Later that month, BASH BACK similarly attacked the private prison provider Sodexo after claiming the trans-identified female prisoner Toni Asik was murdered in Sodexo-run HMP Bronzefield. The police, however, state that “it is not believed there are any suspicious circumstances or third-party involvement at this time” and an investigation is ongoing.

See Suzanne Moore’s column drawing parallels between violent male trans activists attacking the FiLIA conference and a previous attack by trans activists in Brighton when women met during the 2019 Labour Party Conference to discuss protecting single-sex spaces. Moore also includes the recent censorship furore at the National Library for Scotland who (wrongly) caved to internal activist threats and pressure not to include a bestselling book on Scottish women’s successful fight against gender self-ID in their centenary exhibition, despite the public voting for its inclusion. Unbelievably the Library’s CEO claimed on the BBC that the decision to exclude the book was because it “detailed violence, aggression and anger online or in real life” when it is the violence of trans activists being detailed, not the women who wrote the book. Moore expanded the parallel at the recent Battle of Ideas festival by likening violent lashing out by male trans activists to the violence of thwarted men who have lost power and control in domestic relationships, noting “The dangerous time for women is when they try to leave. So this a dangerous time.”

Violent signs displayed by trans activists outside FiLIA in Portsmouth in 2021Even though BASH BACK threaten a NEW ERA OF TRANS RAGE, it feels pretty much like the last era of trans rage. It’s certainly not the first time male trans activists have attacked the FiLIA conference that convenes in a different city each year. In Glasgow in 2023, the venue hosting FiLIA was forced to u-turn after caving to pressure from trans activists and cancelling the booking two days before thousands were due to arrive for the event. Women travelling from Afghanistan to the conference were met with a motley crew of trans activists screaming “Fuck You” at them, led by a male drag queen Tom Harlow (real name Thomas Michael Moncrieff Carlin). In September 2025, MSPs urged Police Scotland to apologise after they stood idle while Harlow/Carlin disrupted an organised For Women Scotland rally outside the Scottish Parliament. In 2021, a protest outside FiLIA’s conference in Portsmouth (reportedly supported by Amnesty UK and attended by city councillor Claire Udy and the Dean of Portsmouth University) meant that women delegates trying to hold a vigil for women murdered by men were met with signs threatening sexual violence saying “Suck my dick you transphobic cunts” and pavement graffiti saying “Transphobes can suck my pink strap”.

See here for a documented list, compiled by Sex Matters, of violence, threats and intimidation perpetrated by male trans activists against women campaigners. Another list entitled ‘The Myth of Both Sides’ is available here on the comedy writer Graham Linehan’s website.

Depressingly few politicians condemned such mindless thuggery of the Brighton attack despite the group saying this is just the start of similar actions and publishing an action guide suggesting more vandalism and intimidation that more angry, violent men can perpetrate. Unsurprisingly Wes Streeting was the exception, along with female politicians who have been steadfast in their support of gender critical women to speak on this issue, such as Preet Kaur Gill, Laura Pidcock, Johann Lamont and Joanna Cherry. Perhaps MPs were largely silent or keen to appease because the BASH BACK action guide suggests “good targets include offices of transphobic MPs and organisations (e.g. Sex Matters, the Equality& Human Rights Commission, Free Speech Union), party conferences…”

The Daily Telegraph reported on the ignorant (and soundly ratioed – 2.4 million views vs 330 likes) post (see left) by Sian Berry, the Green Party MP for Brighton Pavilion. Her tweet seems to suggest Brighton was chosen as a deliberate provocation, whereas the city has often hosted women’s conferences in the past – and anyway, women can meet wherever they like in a free country, does she mean to suggest that Brighton is a no-go area for women where they must expect violence and intimidation by men? Berry offered no support to the women delegates and, in fact, appeared to blame FiLIA rather than the violent BASH BACK men for the vandalism. Likewise, as reported by Sonia Sodha in The Times, Labour council leader, Bella Sankey, issued a minimal statement condemning the vandalism of council property but expressing precisely zero concern about the impact on women attending the conference. Brighton Pride accused women of weaponising BASH BACK’s attack and laughably tried to suggest they were worried about retaliation, as if the women delegates would be out with their paint cans and bricks the following night. Surprisingly, a juvenile post from the Liberal Democrat LGBT group actually received some pushback from Lib Dem MPs such as Paul Kohler, the MP for Wimbledon, who pointed out that “Making light of violence & intimidation directed at women with whom you disagree is ill-judged & illiberal.” Well said.
