James Bubb/Gwyn Samuels
James Bubb/Gwyn Samuels, a violent male who identifies as a transgender woman, was convicted at Amersham Law Courts in August 2025 of five serious sexual offences. Relating to Victim 1 (a young girl) these convictions were for: one count of assault of a child under 13 by penetration, rape of a child under 13, sexual activity with a child and assault by penetration, and relating to Victim 2 (an adult woman): one count of rape. After the convictions, detectives said it is a “possibility” that Bubb had more victims who have yet to come forward.
Bubb, aged 27 and from Chesham, Bucks, was a serving Special Constable with the Metropolitan Police Central West Command Unit when he was arrested relating to incidents which occurred between January 2018 and April 2024 in London and Buckinghamshire. He was immediately suspended from the Met in April 2024 and the investigation was conducted by Thames Valley Police (TVP). Bubb was also a theatre technician at Harrow School – his contract was terminated once alerted by the authorities (see also William Jaggs, a trans-identified male ex-pupil at Harrow School who was convicted of the sexually motivated murder of a young woman).
Bubb was posing as a 16 year old girl online when he met and groomed Victim 1 (a young girl aged just 12 years old) via Omegle, a social media app that randomly connects strangers online to chat, and instant messaging apps, Kik and Snapchat. From the age of 10, Victim 1 had identified as a transgender boy, but now no longer does. Bubb first arranged to meet the child at a Christian ‘Soul Survivor’ festival where she was camping with her parents and he was working as a steward, before sexually assaulting her shortly before her 13th birthday. Between 2020 and 2023 he subjected the child to a number of sexual attacks during which he would also choke, punch and hit her, including orally raping her in a park. The court also heard Bubb had boasted to her about the powers he would gain as a 21 year old police recruit attending officer training at Hendon. Like several other victims of trans-identified male sex offenders (see here), Victim 1 attempted suicide and was hospitalised for two and a half weeks.
Bubb met Victim 2 (a young woman who had just turned 18) in the same way. The court heard that he then went on to use knifeplay, ‘BDSM and kink as a way of creating control’ throughout their relationship. In court, Bubb denigrated the victim by claiming the violence he subjected her to was to satisfy her fantasies. She told the court that Bubb would “use police training techniques” on her, telling police: “The control, the power he got. It sure as hell wasn’t consensual.”
Investigating officer Det Con Kirsty Pendle described Bubb as “a dangerous, predatory sex offender.” Quoted in BBC coverage, Det Sgt Catriona Cameron of the TVP child abuse investigation unit used both they/them and male pronouns for this manipulative male sexual predator in the same sentence, indicating she knows Bubb is male but is afraid to clearly name the problem [pronouns bolded for clarity] saying, “There was an element that he used the fact that they are a special constable in order to intimidate and they have used officer safety techniques and restraint on the victims as part of their offending,”
Both the Met (see statement here) and some media (such as The Times here and Sky News here) dispensed with the pretence that Bubb is a woman (or perhaps didn’t quite dare claim it). Others used they/them even though the court referred to Bubb as male and the media’s excuse for using ‘she’ for trans-identifying men is usually that they follow what is said in court. The statement from TVP calls him ‘Defendant’ (rather than ‘man’ as they usually do for male offenders) and uses they/them pronouns for him. However they do make clear that he only started identifying as “Gwyn Samuels” once the police investigation began, i.e. this is yet another case of so-called “Prison Onset Gender Dysphoria“ where a male offender starts identifying as trans on arrest, as per Adam Graham/Isla Bryson. The BBC, for example, reported that Bubb was a “transgender woman” but justified using male pronouns for him as he “still identified as male at the time of the offences and he was referred to by biological sex throughout the trial at Amersham Law Courts.” Given the claimed trans status of Bubb and the previous trans status of the child victim, if both those identities had been used in this case, it would have obscured male violence against women & girls by appearing to be a “female” defendant (Bubb) perpetrating multiple predatory sex offences against a “male” child (Victim 1) and a young female adult (Victim 2).
Bubb is due to be sentenced at Aylesbury Crown Court on 19 December 2025. Now that he is convicted of these offences, Bubb’s public misconduct hearing has been scheduled by the Met for 26 September as part of the process to dismiss him.
